NJ Fibershed Wool Blankets

NJ Fibershed Blanket - SOLD OUT

Picture

Smiling Dog Farm is proud to be a participant in the NJ Fibershed Blanket Project by providing fleeces from our flock of Gotland sheep.

The NJ Fibershed Blanket is a cooperative project with nine member farms of the NJ Fibershed.   Fleeces from participating farms were pooled, shipped to the processing mill for washing and spinning into yarn, then woven into blankets.

The wool used in producing the blankets is sourced entirely from farms in the New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania region, and must meet criteria for quality to ensure the final product is of the highest quality, beautiful, and enjoyable to own.  Read more about the NJ Fibershed blanket project here.

Click on the photo gallery to see photos of the process from start to finish!

Our blankets are sold out.  Several farms still have blankets for sale - please go to the NJ Fibershed website to see the list of farms that have blankets.

We thank all of our customers who purchased blankets from us, and hope you will enjoy them for many years.

Getting ready to drop off fleeces on fleece collection day
Each fleece was checked by a team from Fibershed along with fiber artists from the community. Fleeces had to meet quality criteria to be acceptable for the blanket.
Fleeces were packed into large bags according to their color (white, gray and brown). We collected a total of 435 pounds of wool!
Fleeces ready for transport to the mill after a long day of checking, sorting and packing.

The yarn was woven into blankets by Tegan Frisino of ComfortCloth weaving.

The design of the blanket was inspired by the farms that contributed wool to the project (there are 9 lines representing the 9 farms that contributed wool. Two sets of lines visually divide the blankets into 3 sections, representing the North, Central, and South Jersey regions. Truly a New Jersey blanket!
